As
discussed in the Emergency Department prior to discharge, tobacco use has been
linked to increased risk of various cancers, respiratory illnesses including
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), coronary artery disease (CAD)
which increases the risk of heart attack, peripheral vascular disease (PVD),
stroke, and early death.
Numerous
resources are available to help you quit smoking, including 1-800-QUIT-NOW
(1-800-784-8669), which will link you to the state quit line where trained professionals can help guide you to available resources. You should also follow
up with your primary care doctor to discuss additional options to aid in
smoking cessation.
